Overview:
The WashU Healthcare Systems and Leadership (WUHSL) pathway is intended to supplement clinical training for WashU Medicine Internal Medicine residents interested in healthcare systems. The pathway will offer dedicated didactic sessions on health systems and leadership, networking with local leaders, and involvement in a mentored longitudinal project. Graduates from WUHSL will be imparted with invaluable skills to lead change in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Program Objectives:
1. Analyze local and national healthcare systems and understand the impacts of healthcare systems on clinicians and patients
2. Gain key leadership skills to effectively manage interprofessional teams
3. Develop a plan to impart change within the healthcare system
Pathway Structure:
– Protected Time: Accepted residents will begin WUHSL in their PGY2 year. There will be two weeks per academic year for pathway didactic sessions and project work.
– Mentorship: Each resident will identify a mentor in their area of interest who can provide oversight to a healthcare systems project.
– Project Work: Each resident will be expected to contribute to a health systems-related project.
